Message	a novice when it comes to DIY engine stuff. You want to leak down test ALL cylinder not just #1 and only on the compression stroke (both valves closed). I used a wooden spoon handle placed in the sparkplug hole to know when I am at TDC. If it doesn't hold pressure then I am at the exhaust stroke. Good Luck
